About SFC

The role of the Formation Advisor in seminary formation is described in the Program for Priestly Formation and came about in light of the vision of St. John Paul II’s seminal work Pastores Dabo Vobis. This formator, who is normally a priest, is the main person responsible for overseeing the integral formation of the seminarian. It is his ministry to help the man grow in every dimension of priestly formation. Given the importance of this ministry in the external forum, a group of experienced seminary formators began to contemplate what could be offered to strengthen seminary formation in general. They recognized the great strengthening impact that a comprehensive formation program for seminary formators could have on seminaries. Thus, to create and facilitate this program a new organization was formed which was called the Seminary Formation Council (S.F.C.) which will sponsor a two-year “Certificate in Seminary Formation for Missionary Discipleship.”
